Becoming one with the wilderness – the Bear Crew® story

“I remember the first hunt with my father when I was just four years old. When I turned nine, I started setting up traps for small game. The money I earned from selling their furs made it possible to purchase my first rifle, with a customised stock crafted for me by a local carpenter. What started as a hobby gradually grew into a way of life where the wilderness plays a continuous, integral role.”

Deeply rooted in the traditions of outdoor life and hunting, the story of Bear Crew® began long before a single garment was designed and produced. For decades, the founders of the company have made trips to explore the Nordic nature. Those journeys have shaped their vision of what kind of clothing and equipment a true explorer needs.

The apparel was born from the desire to develop clothing suitable not just for outdoor life but also for everyday urban activities. Functionality has been the priority in the design process, with every detail tested in real-life situations. It materialises as garments that withstand and function in extreme conditions while providing timeless style and comfort.

Bear Crew® represents a profound understanding of outdoor life and the Nordic wilderness.

“When I began trekking and hunting, there was no specialised outdoor gear. I wore old work trousers, thick winter coats, and rubber boots. I had a small flat torch and a thermos flask full of strong coffee. Everything was sort of improvised, but also as functional as possible. The deep connection to nature made sure of that.”

Although the traditional wool suits used for outdoor expeditions were not bad, they lacked versatility. In the 1990s, so-called technical outdoor garments began their breakthrough, but most of the products on the market did not meet expectations. Either the clothes lacked breathability or failed to provide adequate waterproofing. For hunters, who prefer silent movement, most of these rustling jackets and pants weren’t also quiet enough for the task.

In addition, Bear Crew® founders noticed that when clothing causes discomfort, it disrupts concentration. They began to ponder that If a cuff absorbs water or an elastic band feels uncomfortable, why was it designed that way? Such technical flaws or oversights in design can take the enjoyment out of an otherwise thrilling moment in nature.

These experiences with clear shortcomings in clothing by different manufacturers led to the idea of designing better outdoor apparel. The first prototypes were far from perfect, but after five to six different series of test garments, the essence of Bear Crew® started to come to life. When the manufacturer admitted that no one had ever requested such improvements before, everyone knew that this was the right track.

This was clothing for the explorers, by the explorers.

“Some time ago, I was organising my storage, and I realised how many outdoor jackets and pants I owned. The number was astonishing. I constantly mixed and matched parts of different suits for different hunts and expeditions, and sometimes I forgot which jacket was optimal for autumn or which pants were right for freezing winter temperatures. The gear had begun to come in the way of enjoyment.”

The manufacturer of Bear Crew® clothing has worked with various fashion designers, so even the most dedicated outdoor explorer can look good without compromising functionality. You can wear Bear Crew® not only to the woods, but for all kinds of leisure or work – just about anywhere. These are not seasonal outfits, but apparel designed to last.

The promise of Bear Crew® is that you will no longer need other outdoor jackets or pants. With supreme breathability, water-repellency, and versatility, the gear is suitable for all seasons and all environments. The garments are durable, and there will not be yearly product updates or new versions – you will get the best possible outdoor clothes right now, and Bear Crew® is willing to stand behind them.

By wearing Bear Crew, you too can become one with the wilderness.

“Our experiences in the wild also shape the next generation. The call of the forest was passed on early, with children carried in baby slings through the woods and learning to call elk by the age of three. Outdoor life has been such an essential part of everyday existence, and it still is. And although each of us gets older, somehow all of it just keeps getting better. This is only the beginning.”
